Brett and Adam Boehm founded TBF Financial (TBF) with their father Robert in 1998 with the goal of pioneering commercial debt buying in the equipment leasing industry. The company succeeded and now equipment finance businesses routinely sell off all or a portion of their distressed accounts after charge-off. So do many other commercial lenders.
At TBF Financial, we buy pools of non-performing commercial accounts of any size, within statute, from online small business lenders, banks, equipment finance companies and merchant cash-advance businesses. The preferred pool size is from $5 million to $100 million and up, with individual accounts typically averaging $100,000 or below.
Commercial debt buying is an established practice in financial services that benefits sellers in many ways. Selling your old accounts to TBF generates fast cash at closing; allows internal staff to focus on earlier past-dues that are more likely to be recovered; and offers other advantages to your business.
Our pricing is competitive and flexible, based on TBF’s own Data Driven, True Value Pricing algorithm and our goal of establishing a long-term relationship with you. We offer aggressive prices that reflect the assets’ fair market value.

He has presented at a number of events for equipment finance businesses and online small business lenders including ELFA conferences, National Equipment Finance Association (NEFA) conferences and LEND360. With a license to practice law in the state of Illinois, Brett managed his own law firm while participating in the creation of TBF.
CFO
Adam’s responsibilities as CFO include oversight of the financial health of TBF. He also created and continues to update the company’s proprietary Data Driven, True Market Pricing algorithm, which enables TBF to offer sellers aggressive prices reflecting the assets’ fair market value. Adam left a lucrative role with a purchase order factoring company to help start TBF in 1998. He graduated from Indiana University in 1996 with a degree in finance from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Chairman Emeritus
Robert graduated from DePaul University Law School and was admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois in 1966. He spent his legal career representing banks and financial institutions throughout the Chicago area. In 1998, he retired from the law firm he started, which represented over 30 banks and financial institutions, to found TBF with sons Brett and Adam. Robert’s experience as a lawyer provided him with the concept for TBF, and with the assistance of Brett and Adam, the company evolved over time. Robert was the CEO of TBF until 2010, when Brett took over this role to expand the company’s national footprint. Robert then acted as TBF’s CFO until 2022, when Adam stepped in to take over those responsibilities. Currently, Robert uses his lengthy career and experience to advise TBF on an as-needed basis in between rounds of golf. It is a well-earned retirement for the man who started it all.
